  1. I think this was a great topic to cover. The meta description topic is often forgot about and it’s so important to get it right for SEO, Google, and just to ensure that you’re serving your audience. I think both the title and meta description needs to match user search intent as best as it can. Your advice helps to get it to that importance. Great tips and post!

  2. I noticed this was last updated in 2021.
How has AI affected SEO and clicks?
Does the meta need to be tweaked?
Also, can the meta be done without a plugin?

    1. Thank you for highlighting this. I haven’t updated this post as it did not need updating, but I appreciate that having a 2021 date makes it look out of date, so I have gone in and double checked everything and updated the date so it is clear that the information is still current. The main thing that has affected clicks is the AI overviews you now get at the top of a lot of Google searches. Often people read those overviews and get all the information they need from there. So for many queries – especially simple informational queries – clicks are down a lot. However, this doesn’t really affect meta descriptions. They still work the same on the main results below the AI overview, so they are still important. Technically, you can set a meta description without a plugin, but this would require coding – not something that most of the bloggers I work with would feel comfortable with. Added to this, there are may other benefits of having an SEO plugin, so most bloggers choose to use a plugin for all the other benefits too.
